Project Overview

The tulalW Student Services and Instructional Building delivered a comprehensive 70,000 square foot educational facility that serves as a centralized hub for student services and community engagement at Grays Harbor College. The project encompasses 69,985 gross square feet with 45,490 usable square feet, achieving a 65% space efficiency ratio, creating a unified campus gateway that consolidates previously dispersed administrative and educational functions.

Project Scope

The three-story student hub houses the college Bookstore, a coffee bar, café and dining area; the Office of Student Life, Veterans Lounge, Diversity Equity Center, and offices for Advising and Counseling, Enrollment and Financial Aid; as well as conference and meeting rooms and a third-floor event center with facilities to host 450 people. The building also houses the school’s Culinary Arts program, featuring a state-of-the-art culinary lab, commercial kitchen facilities, and student-run dining venues that integrate hands-on training kitchens with on-site food service. The project included demolition of two existing buildings: Building 100 (22,643 GSF) and Building 200 (12,437 GSF), replacing obsolescent facilities with modern educational infrastructure.

Key Features

The project created a new, reoriented Quad/Commons space with an accessible campus pedestrian entry plaza, integrating landscape design that includes a relocated endowed azalea garden. The center provides a welcoming front door that connects campus and community, improves accessibility and wayfinding through challenging campus terrain, and completes the campus’s emergency access loop road as a critical component of the area’s Emergency Evacuation Plan. The facility consolidates student services into a one-stop location while establishing a new campus identity through its strategic positioning as both an educational facility and community gathering space.
